Jack Rivière

Mini-Biography

Jack Rivière has swapped the hectic pace of working life for the joys of retirement, a time now devoted to his grandchildren and his passion for writing. It was in the crucible of the stories he invented for his grandchildren that inspiration germinated, giving birth to adventure tales and short stories designed to awaken children’s imaginations.

Each of Jack’s stories is an open door to a world of dreams and wonder, where children’s curiosity and wonder are always at the ready.

Jack likes to incorporate elements of his garden, where he spends a lot of time with his grandchildren, into his stories, paying homage to sunny afternoons spent exploring and inventing worlds.

Interview

Jack, how did the experience of telling stories to your grandchildren influence your decision to become an author?

Telling stories to my grandchildren has become a ritual dear to our hearts. Their reaction of pure wonder and boundless imagination inspired me to share these adventures with all children, in the hope of inspiring the same joy and thirst for adventure.

What message do you want to convey through your short stories and adventure tales?

Above all, I want to convey the pleasure of reading. My stories are vehicles for dreams and adventure, but they also convey values of courage, friendship and solidarity that I consider essential.

Can you tell us about a particular adventure that inspired one of your stories?

One of my stories, “Marcus, A Love of Labrador”, was inspired by our family dog. The children were fascinated by his antics and boundless loyalty. This gave me the idea to create a story where the bond between a boy and his dog becomes the heart of a larger-than-life adventure.

What are your favorite books and why?

“The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain

Twain was the trigger for my love of adventure stories and childlike mischief.

“The Famous Five by Enid Blyton

Blyton’s characters and their adventures captured my imagination and that of my grandchildren.

“The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien

Tolkien showed me how a fantasy world can be as real and tangible as the world we live in.
